The state
government may have spent openhandedly for the conduct of Simhastha in the
state but the Central government gave a lukewarm response, as far as extending
financial help for the event is concerned.
As per
information obtained through Right to Information Act (RTI), it is revealed
that the state government had sent a proposal informing the centre that Rs 3500
crore would be spent in Simhastha and it had sought financial help of Rs 1,000
crore. In response, the centre released merely Rs 100 crore.
RTI activist
Ajay Dubey, making the letters written by chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan
to Union finance minister Arun Jaitley public, quipped that when the centre did
not help, then where did the fund for the works of Rs 3,400 crore come from.
Chouhan in his letter to Jaitley in December, 2014, had mentioned about weak
financial condition in the state.
Chouhan in
the letter also gave examples of Uttarakhand, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh
where the centre had given financial help for Kumbh.
The centre
merely released a sum of Rs 100 crore to the state in April, 2015. Chouhan also
wrote a letter to Jaitley in June, 2015 on which no action was taken by the
centre.
