After
receiving a hard copy of the Central Information Commission's order, Gujarat
University has now made Prime Minister Narendra Modi's educational
qualifications and marksheet public. Vice-chancellor MN Patel told journalists
on Wednesday that anyone can pay a fee of Rs 20 and access these records and
even procure a copy of the marksheet.
Last week,
CIC information commissioner M Sridhar Acharyulu had directed Gujarat
University (GU) and the Delhi University to provide all information regarding
educational degrees earned by Prime Minister Modi after Delhi CM Arvind
Kejriwal demanded that the PM's educational details be made public.
Earlier,
Patel had told TOI that Modi had done his MA in political science in 1983,
securing 499 of 800 marks, which translates to 62.37 % (first division). Modi
had studied European politics, socio-political thought, political psychology,
modern India, and political tools.
On Wednesday,
Patel told TOI: "Since Modi's academic record is more than 20 years old
and because the query fell in the category of a 'third party' seeking information
under the RTI Act, we had initially refused to disclose the information."
On Sunday,
Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil had asked for copies of Modi's BA degree and
DU migration certificate. Gohil had alleged that GU had failed to explain on
what basis the university had enrolled Modi in an MA course without details of
his BA degree.
Patel
countered this allegation by saying: "Students provide us with copies of
their BA degrees and migration certificate at the time of enrollment as
admission till then is provisional. Once they are properly enrolled, the
university destroys the record. This process is followed even today."
