Times of India: Varanasi: Friday,
May 27, 2016.
Congress
general secretary Digvijaya Singh has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata
Party-led NDA government is making the Right to Information (RTI) Act
ineffective and is lingering Goods and Service Tax (GST) bill because the
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is not in its favour.
Challenging
the BJP-led government to initiate action in AgustaWestland chopper and Robert
Vadra's land deal, Digvijaya alleged that Modi proved hollowness of his
promises to make India a corruption-free country by turning a blind eye to the
alleged corrupt practices in the BJP-ruled states.
Digvijaya was
in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's parliamentary constituency as per the party's
agenda to expose alleged failure of the BJP-led government at the Centre on the
completion of its two years of formation on Thursday. After taking stock of
river Ganga, infrastructure and sanitary condition of the cit, Digvijaya held a
press conference which started following screening of an 8.30 minute film
mocking at Modi and his pre-poll promises.
Later, he
said, "On completion of two years of his government, Modi has started 15
days campaign to publicise his achievement across the country. Let this
campaign get completed and the Congress will seek details of expenditure made
by Modi government on it through RTI, which is being weakened by the government
deliberately." Digvijaya alleged that to weaken the RTI, Modi government
is avoiding appointment of chief central information commissioner.
Digvijaya
also alleged, "Modi made tall promises before elections to make the
country free from corruption after RSS promoted Anna Hazare for launching
agitation on the issue of Lokpal. However, Modi government could not succeed in
appointing a Lokpal so far. Modi's double standard on the issue of corruption
had also been exposed by his inaction in case of corruptions, which took place
in BJP ruled states." To substantiate his allegations, he reiterated the
alleged connections of Lalit Modi with Rajasthan chief minister, avoiding
action like seeking explanation from union surface transport minister Nitin
Gadkari on controversial tender allotment and VYAPAM scam.
As RSS
opposed GST, he alleged, BJP did not allow Congress-led UPA government to pass
this bill and after coming to power, Modi is lingering GST bill due to the same
reason. Digvijaya further alleged, "Under pressure from the RSS, the HRD
ministry has saffronised all central universities where students are being
pressured to join Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad. Student leaders like
Kanhaiya and Rohith Vemula, who were not bowing under this pressure, were being
victimized." He alleged that the BJP claims itself a sympathizer of Sadhus
just to trade votes of Hindus and capture religious institutions. It was proved
when PM, who tweets his comments in meager issues, remained tight-lipped, when
Swami Avimukteshwaranand was assaulted in Varanasi, he added.
Digvijay also
targeted Modi government on its foreign, economic policies, inflation and
internal security issues. He alleged that Modi government could not take a
single step forward in the direction of making river Ganga free from pollution
despite making tall claims of spending Rs 20,000 crore for it. Modi sold dream
to convert Kashi into Kyoto, he alleged, but in past two years even damaged
roads could not be repaired while flyover, railway over bridge and other
projects are also incomplete. Even Assi Ghat where PM had launched his Clean
India Campaign is in pathetic condition, he alleged.
Digvijaya
said, "Due to being trained by the RSS, BJP successfully proved its lies
as true, which the Congress could not do."
