VS's trust deficit in AMC comes to fore

Times of India‎‎‎: Ahmedabad: Monday, April 11, 2016.
The four trustees of VS Hospital have now come out in the open to "expose the wrongdoings" pertaining to running of one of the city's biggest hospital.
In a press release issued on Sunday, the trustees claimed that in the past three years, the trust board did not appoint a medical superintendent to the hospital.
"Our trust appointed 15 medical superintendents in this hospital and the 16th medical superintendent was appointed by the AMC-Medical Education Trust. Under what law can a trust appoint the officials of completely different trust? This has never happened in the history of VS," says the press release.
In an RTI reply in January, the hospital administration had revealed that the VS Hospital has 1,155 beds while AMC-MET has none.
But the budgets presented by mayors Meenakshi Patel for the past two years and now Gautam Shah this year, claimed that there are just 125 beds in VS Hospital.
"If the RTI reply is true, then how did Medical Council of India (MCI) give permission to AMC-MET run NHL Medical College if all the 1,155 beds are with VS Hospital," says a senior trustee of VS Hospital who did not wish to be named.
Another important issue raised by trustees was that the private contractors appointed to handle cash of VS Hospital were actually employed by the medical superintendent who is an employee of AMC-MET.
