Pune Mirror: Pune: Wednesday, April
20, 2016.
The home of a
Right to Information (RTI) activist was set on fire by unknown persons in the
late hours between Sunday and Monday. Chakan police have filed an FIR against a
duo of shopkeepers, whom the activist, Dattatray Sable, levelled charges
against.
Sable said,
"My wife realised at 2.45 am on Monday that smoke had spread in our
residence. We then found two turbans burning alongside a bottle of petrol
outside the house. I suspect that this was done by agriculture shopkeepers Rupesh
and Nilesh Bhor, whose licences may get cancelled because of the information I
sought under RTI from the agricultural commissioner, district collector and
Food and Drug Administration (FDA)."
He added,
"I sought this data to find out how many farmers from the Khed block have
registered written complaints against shopkeepers for selling substandard
agricultural products, like seeds, pesticides, etc. Farmers have earlier filed
complaints against the Bhors. I also sought to find whether the concerned departments
have taken any action against shopkeepers and respective companies.
Surprisingly, no action has been taken against anyone."
Santosh
Girigosavi, police inspector, Chakan police station, said, "Our team
reached Sable's home by 3.30 am and found half-burned turbans outside. No loss
of property was reported. We have filed an FIR against Jayesh and Nilesh Bhor
under sections 336, 511 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). We are
conducting an inquiry into the matter. If we find that the duo has committed
the crime, they will be arrested."
