A local RTI
activist who had earlier exposed the scandal of faulty allotment of shops owned
by Government Medical College that caused a loss of around Rs 20 crore to the
exchequer, has accused the Secretary of Medical Education and Research of
shielding corrupt officials.
In a fresh
complaint to the Chief Secretary, the activist, Ravinder Sultanwind, stated
that an enquiry ordered by the Department Of Medical Education And Research
completed around a year and half ago had stated that the college had suffered a
loss of Rs 20 crore because of faulty allotment of shops.
“Even as 18
months have passed, the department has failed to take action against a single
employee. In the meantime, many of the guilty officials have retired and
withdrawn all their benefits,” said Sultanwind, complaining that the delay in
action was for the sole purpose of shielding corrupt officials.
Sultanwind
said the college authorities had bypassed the rules of allotment and even
failed to collect rent from the allottees for a long time which had caused the
loss. The department had got the matter enquired through a committee appointed
by faculty members of Government Medical College, Patiala, twice.
The enquiry
committee had clearly stated that the rules had been bypassed which had caused
a loss to the tune of Rs 20 crore. Requesting the Chief Secretary to take
notice of the alleged corruption in the college, Sultanwind had asked him to
ensure that the matter was not delayed further.
