Kashmir: Anantnag: Friday, 05 February 2016.
A Right to
Information (RTI) application, filed by a civil society group here, is yet to
be answered by local PMGSY unit, after over four months it was filed.
The members
of Welfare Committee Anantnag (WCA) filed the said RTI, number 1258, in October
2015 at the Executive Engineer PMGSY’s office. However, more thanfour months
later the office bearers are still sitting on the information, making members
of the group make multiple visits to their office.
President of
WCA, Muhammad Sultan alleged that Executive Engineer of the Anantnag unit
released crores of rupees in payments to shady firms without even cross
checking their authenticity.
“We filed an
RTI seeking information on allotment of works at the unit and release of
payments in last two years,” Sultan told Rising Kashmir, adding that the office
bearers have been making lame excuses for not revealing the information.
The members
of the WCA alleged gross embezzlement of funds at the unit “and the information
is being withheld and not allowed to come into the public domain at the behest
of some top officials”.
“Guilty or
not is the secondary question. At this juncture we need only the information we
have sought and which is being denied,” said Nisar Ahmad, a member of the WCA.
Rising
Kashmir tried to reach the Executive Engineer of the said unit for his comment
on the allegations, but was informed that the Executive Engineer, in whose
tenure the RTI had been filed, has been transferred and the new one is yet to
join duties.
