Central
Information Commission (CIC) is not returning appeals and complaints "only
for the want of ID proof", Lok Sabha was informed today.
Minister of
State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Jitendra Singh denied that
CIC has sought to reduce pendency of cases by not opening envelops of around
10,000 RTI applications in the last three months.
He said RTI
Rules, 2012 do not specifically provide for furnishing photo identity documents
along with appeals and complaints.
"However,
in compliance of directions contained in order dated November 02, 2012 of High
Court of Punjab and Haryana in CWP no. 4787/2011 in the case of Fruit Merchant
Union vs CIC and others, the appellants were asked to provide their photo ID
proofs along with other documents while filing appeal/complaints in Central
Information Commission.
"However,
appeal/complaint cases are not returned only for want of ID proof," he
said.
