A seemingly
innocuous RTI query to Delhi Metro has landed the applicant with a demand of Rs
2.62 lakh as the price for the reply. RTI applicant Aseem Takyar had sought
information related to driverless Metro trains. However, he has been asked to
pay Rs 2.62 lakh for a tender document to get the information.
In a response
to Takyar, DMRC said, "There is a proposal to introduce unattended train
operation mode under phase III of DMRC. The details of the scheme are available
in a tender document which is a priced publication. You can obtain the tender
document on payment of non-refundable fee of Rs 2.62 lakh.''
Takyar said,
"I have not sought a tender document nor am I interested in bidding for
Phase III.''
Phase III of
the project is expected to be completed by 2016 with an expansion of 158 kms.
Driverless trains are one of the significant features of phase III of the
project. The ultra-modern trains will provide a whole new experience for
commuters on the new and upcoming corridors.
A total of
seven segments are to be constructed on six corridors in the Phase III project.
These segments include Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar, Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden,
Central Secretariat- Kashmere Gate, Jahangirpuri-Badli, Badarpur-YMCA Chowk
Faridabad, Dwarka- Najafgarh and Mundka-Bahadurgarh.
After the
completion of construction on these corridors, the daily ridership of the Delhi
Metro is expected to touch the 40 lakh mark.
