CEPT admission process to be made transparent

Ahmedabad Mirror: Ahmedabad: Friday, 01 January 2016.
Cept University will put merit list of all the candidates seeking admission to postgraduate and undergraduate courses on its dedicated admission portal from academic year 2016-17. With this initiative the university seeks to do away with referrals, lobbying, RTI petitions by unsuccessful applicants and unnecessary administrative hassles. The university aims to introduce transparency in the admission process and prevent disappointment among unsuccessful candidates.
Under the new system all the applicants, whether successful or unsuccessful, will be ranked as per their performance in the screening process and the entire list will be put on the portal. Students in the waiting list, or those with ranks beyond the number of seats on offer, will be able to see their status as the list would be updated regularly. Earlier, a list of only selected candidates was displayed on the portal leaving doubts and assumptions among unsuccessful ones.
The institute used to get more than 10 RTI applications regarding admission procedures which created a lot of administrative chaos for the institute and dismay for left out students. The admission portal of the institute now clearly displays process of the admission starting from how students are screened to refund of fees.
Subhrangsu Goswami, Chairman of the admission committee said, "We admit a total of 350 post graduate students and 140 undergraduate students every year. Most of the RTI petitions are received for admissions into post graduate courses. I used to get 4-5 recommendations every year but the new process will be totally transparent with no place for referrals, corruption or lobbying." Online admission process was first introduced at the university from academic year 2014-15.
