RTIM, TII organise essay competition

Rising Kashmir: Srinagar: Thursday, 10 December 2015.
In connection with International Anti-Corruption Day, the Jammu Kashmir RTI Movement in association with Transparency International India (TII) organized an essay writing competition and debate at Kashmir Law College Srinagar.
Students from Kashmir Law College and Kashmir Tibbia College participated in the programme.
The topic of the essay was “Corruption and Role of RTI”. As many as 60 students took part in essay writing. Three students namely Nadiya Yousuf , Ayman Ashraf and Barjees secured first three positions respectively . In the debate category Rahil Habib was declared as the best speaker.
While speaking at the function Director School Education Dr Shah Faesal stressed upon students to become anti-corruption crusaders. Citing his personal example Faesal said that during college days he was actively involved with RTI activism. He said that such programmes should be held in all the institutions so as to sensitize the students about menace of corruption. Shah Faesal congratulated RTI Movement and Transparency International India (TII) for organizing the anti-corruption programme.
Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat Founder, Convener of Jammu Kashmir RTI Movement read out a paper on corruption and its ramifications vis a vis Jammu and Kashmir. He gave a presentation on J&K RTI Act 2009 and its role in reducing corruption. Muzaffar criticized the authorities for not organsing any event on World Anti-Corruption day. He urged upon the authorities to give more teeth to State Accountability Commission (SAC) and State Information Commission (SIC). Prof Abdul Salam Director of Kashmir Law College welcomed the guests and urged upon Dr Shah Faesal to frequently visit the institute to deliver lecture on various laws especially the Land Revenue Act. Senior Lecturer Romana Shafaq, Nusrat Jahan Ara , Noted RTI activists Dr Mushatq Khan , Umaan Umar Javaid , Abdul Rehman  also spoke on the occasion. Cultural group lead by Rayees Wathoori presented a skit on corruption and its manifestations which was hailed by the audience. At the end of the programme  Students , speakers , faculty of Law College  took anti-corruption pledge as well.
