BGR India: New Delhi: Thursday, December 24, 2015.
Since the
time of general elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has effectively used
the Internet and social media to connect with citizens. You would think that
with his various commitments, Modi might have team to take care of his social
accounts, but a recent RTI filing suggests otherwise.
Replying to a
Right to Information (RTI) query, the government of India says that Modi’s
personal accounts Facebook and Twitter are handled by the PM himself. The
various tweets, Facebook posts and selfies are his own and no PR company or
social media team handles them. As for the tweets in foreign languages, it is
believed Modi takes help from the translators hired by Doordarshan. The RTI
reply however says that the official Prime Minister account (@PMOIndia) is
handled by a different team.
It is a tad
surprising that Modi gets enough time to tweet and post Facebook posts
regularly when he is travelling across the globe. At the time of filing this
story, Modi’s Twitter account has around 16.8 million followers and around 31
million likes on his Facebook page.
