Mirror: Bangalore: Friday, 25 December 2015.
After tasting
success in Bengaluru, the Karnataka State Information Commission is planning
RTI Lok Adalats across the state.
This comes as
good news to thousands of appellants who had to undergo the travails of coming
all the way from places like Bidar, Bijapur, Kalaburagi to the Karnataka State
Information Commission in Bengaluru. Most of the time, the arduous journey ends
on a disappointing note with the issue of another date.
RTI Lok
Adalats are meant to redress the cases then and there, and bring the appellants
and the PIOs (public information offices) on the same platform with the option
of another date being the last resort.
In the first
round, two courts will be functional at district headquarters. Here too, the
commission officials maintained that a notification under the National Legal
Services Authority (Lok Adalat) Regulation, 2000 would be made to accord the
proceedings a civil court proceeding status to make these Adalats a serious
legal business. The information commission recently held RTI Lok Adalats in
nine BBMP zones on as many days. The first drive of this sort had achieved good
result with an average of 61.10 per cent disposal rate pertaining to pending
cases. RTI Lok Adalats across districts will also address pendency issues, the
official said.
"The
Adalats will be more effective in districts as it will save the time and money
of appellants. Close to over 50 per cent of pendency could be attributed to
cases from across the state," L Krishna Murthy, information commissioner,
told Bangalore Mirror.
