“Your one RTI
question can change the system. Don't lose faith in the law,“ said central
infor mation com missioner Professor Madabhus hi Sridhar Acharyulu on Sunday.
Prof Acharyulu was in the city to attend an
annual public relations conference. He poUSE inted out that in many cases
people do not ask proper questions in their RTI applications and hence, they do
not get response JAA from the public inGUJA formation officers. A TIMES O
“First file a reENDEA gular complaint to address your grievance with the
department and then follow it up with an RTI application, demanding file
notings along with a copy of the action taken report on your complaint. Things
would fall in place,“ he said.
“The law has
empowered common people who are fighting their daily battles with the district
collectorate, civic bodies, civil supplies, revenue departments in small towns
and districts of our country. I think that is what matters,“ he added.
He pointed out,
`If the go vernment has been accusing commoners of misusing the RTI Act, I say
it's the same the other way aro und. I have found inTI numerable ways in which
public bodies in states and at the centre have found ways of discoura ging
citizens from as king information. Is O that not misuse of AT the act?“ NDIA
Prof Acharyulu UR said that in future more support would be required from RTI
users across the country for maintaining functional and financial autonomy of
information commissions in the state and at the Centre.
