Vijay Auti and Imtiyaz Ahmed sought to corner Government over the issue of
murderous attacks on RTI activists being reported across the State.
The Chief
Minister replied that in all 10 incidents of assaults on RTI activists have
been reported in the State out of which one activist died. Similarly, four RTI
activists suffered injuries. In the rest five incidents, the RTI activists
received threats of attacks. Out of the 10 cases, four are being probed by
police and four are pending in courts. One case has been handed over to CBI as
per High Court directives and in one case, a court has acquitted the accused,
informed Fadnavis.
He further
said that in accordance with the directives of Bombay High Court, committees at
the levels of District/Zone, Regional and at Government level have been formed
for providing protection to RTI activists. The process to enact law for
protection of RTI activists is in the pipeline at Government level, stated the
Chief Minister.
