Chief
minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday informed that the state government was in
the process of bringing in a legislation to provide protection and security to
Right to Information (RTI) activists in the state.
Replying to a
starred question by MLAs Vijay Auti and Imtiaz Sayyad in the assembly,
Fadnavis, in a written reply, said 10 offences have been registered regarding
attacks on RTI activists and of them one activist died in such an attack while
four were injured. He said in the remaining five incidents, the activists were
attacked and threatened.
The chief
minister further said one offence was transferred to the Central Bureau of
Investigation (CBI) as per the High Court order and in one incident, an accused
was acquitted. He informed that of the remaining eight incidents, four are
subjudice, and while in other four, police investigation is on.
Fadnavis said
committees have been set up at district, circle, regional and state level to
provide adequate protection to the RTI activists.
