In reply to
an RTI application, the General Administration Department (GAD) of the
government on Friday said that it has no record available to say, who is
‘Sher-e-Kashmir’ in the State.
RTI activist
Deepak Sharma had filed an RTI with the PIO of Governor’s Secretariat, seeking
information regarding title ‘Sher-e-Kashmir’ if conferred upon by government to
any person in the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
The PIO, Raj
Bhawan, transferred the RTI application to the PIO General Administration
Department, who vide his reply no. GAD/RTI (Adm)/1553/2015 informed the RTI
applicant that there is no information available on the records of the GAD to
the query asked by the applicant.
Interestingly,
Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, the founder of National Conference is known as
Sher-e-Kashmir.
Many
institutes and establishments in the state have been named after the NC
founder. These include Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS),
Soura; Sher-e-Kashmir Municipal Park and Sher-e-Kashmir cricket stadium.
Expressing
surprise over the reply of the PIO, Deepak said on one hand many institutes and
establishments in the state have been
named after ‘Sher-e-Kashmir’ and on the other hand Government has no
record regarding who is
‘Sher-e-Kashmir’.
