The Food and
Civil supplies department of Maharashtra government does not have any details
of raids conducted on dal hoarders, a Right to Information Act query has
revealed.
Activist Anil
Galgali said that though the government has claimed to have cracked down on
hoarders and conducted several raids in view of the skyrocketing prices of
pulses, no details of the action were available.
To his query
under the RTI, the department's reply was it doesn't maintain this record.
Galgali had
sought details about pulses seized during the raids, their market price, and
the criminal action taken against the concerned hoarders.
In reply,
under secretary and information officer Praveen Nalawade said the details such
as quantity of dal seized, fines imposed, etc., were with the concerned police
stations and records are kept by Collector and Controller of Rationing.
Citing a
government circular of September 6, 2008, the officer said he is not bound to
collect this information.
