State
Information Commissioner Dr. Vijaya Nirmala on Wednesday said that the number
of persons filing petitions under Right to Information Act (RTI) in AP is less
compared to their counterparts in Telangana.
At an
awareness meet on RTI Act, she said that people in the State had lesser number
of issues to be sorted out. Describing the RTI act as a ''Brahmastram'' in the
hands of people, she said one should not silently put up with any discrepancy
in the service rendered by government employees.
The Act,
which had put in place transparency in administration, should be invoked to
clean the mess in social life.
“When we do
not tolerate a maid for dissatisfactory work, then why is it that we silently
suffer despite deficiency in service rendered by government officials?, she
asked.
The order passed
by the Information Commission making it mandatory for all hospitals to display
tariff for all medical services as a ‘big victory’ for people.
“Not parting
with information, except those relating to Defence sector, is liable for
punishment,” she said.
Former High
Court judge Justice Chandra Kumar suggested that people use the RTI Act as a
weapon to put an end to corruption in public life.
