Accusing
National Conference (NC) politicians of having “diverted flood-relief to their
party cadres” in unaffected areas of Srinagar, PDP Youth Wing President,
Waheed-ur-Rehman Para Wednesday said the facts that have come to the fore in
reply to a RTI query in this regard have made it amply clear that how NC
politicians, in run-up to 2014 assembly elections, “misused and channelized the
flood relief to their workers for electoral gains”.
In a party
statement, Para said, “as per the reply provided by Tehsildar Khanyar to a RTI
query, 91 families in Naidyaar were provided relief cheques amounting to Rs
3800 each, and 196 families in Khawaja Yarbal in Nowhatta estate were given Rs
3800 relief cheques each.”
“As per the
RTI query, 16 families which have been given relief are fake, while two have
shifted to different localities some 30 years ago,” he added. “Surprisingly,”
he said, “even minors have been shown as having separate families and given
relief cheques.”
“It is not
only tragic but criminal on part of NC leaders that they denied relief to the
real flood-affected people and instead channelized the same to party workers
and their kith and kin,” Para said and added that PDP has been right from the
beginning maintained that NC politicians “not only embezzled the massive relief
material that poured into the State in the aftermath of devastating floods of
September 2014 but also tried to use the same for electoral gains”.
“The
Government should identify all the NC politicians for resorting to
politicization of relief distribution and take them to task for denying the
real affected people of their right,” he said.
