Deep Maradia,
23, a student of seventh semester mechanical engineering in Rajkot-based
college, has been relentlessly fighting to get justice for himself and others
who are victims of 'mass errors' by evaluators of Gujarat Technological
University (GTU).
Maradia had
failed in maths during the third semester of winter 2013 examination. He was
expecting to get at least 50-55 marks out of total 70 marks.
"I was
shocked when I got results. Out of 30 students 26 failed the subject in my
class. Many of these students were featured in top 100 students of GTU in
earlier tests. I suspected some foul play in evaluation system of GTU. So I
started filling RTI application to get evaluated answer-sheet copy from
GTU," Maradia says.
"Interestingly,
one of my classmates, who was caught in a copy case in Fluid Mechanics paper
passed the examination paper with CC grade. Even he himself was shocked how he
could pass this paper. There are major blunders in evaluation system,'' he
added.
Deep filed
his first RTI application with GTU in April 23, 2014 and sought to check his
evaluated answer-sheet.
"when I
demanded a copy of answer sheet GTU denied it. When I filed another RTI to get
copy GTU replied that since there are over 500 colleges affiliated with it and
they have limited resources. So they are not giving answer-sheet copy to
students," he says.
"The
argument of limited resources is absurd when students' careers are compromised
with. I am in seventh semester now and in April next year, I will complete my
study but I am still waiting to get justice from GTU and there are many more
students like me," he added.
However,
Maradia approached to Gujarat Information Commission (GIC), Gandhinagar, in
August 2014 where his appeal is pending.
