Haryana State
Information Commission has issued bailable warrants against the head of the law
department of Maharishi Dayanand University (MDU) in Rohtak for not complying
with its directions.
Information
commissioner Hemant Atri on Tuesday ordered the Rohtak superintendent of police
to ensure compliance of the panel's orders in connection with service of
warrants to Professor Badruddin, head of law department and public information
officer (PIO) of the university.
During the
last hearing of the case, the commission had asked the PIO to remain present
before the commission on September 22. But he failed to attend the hearing
claiming to be busy due to exigency of work and a meeting for Tuesday. However,
the commission was of the view that he could have postponed/preponed the
meeting to make it convenient to be personally appear before the panel.
The case
pertains to an RTI application filed by a final year student of the law
department Naresh Kumar, who has been fighting to get information related to
entrance examination of PhD and LLB for the past many months. "When I
filed applications, the university issued a notice against me. I also filed
another RTI application to know the charges against me," Kumar maintained.
