Times of India: Mumbai: Thursday, 03 September 2015.
Two assistant commissioners and an information officer of the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) have been fined by the State Information Commissioner (SIC) for failing to reply to a Right To Information (RTI) query of an applicant.
Santosh Tiwari had filed an RTI application in 2012 regarding information on the bars and lodges and illegal constructions in the region. After failing to get information from the MBMC he had filed a first and second appeal, but failed to get a reply.
He then filed a final appeal before the SIC (Konkan Division) that fined assistant commissioners Hemant Patil and Kalpita Pimple Rs 45,000 each. Dashrath Handore, information officer with the MBMC general administration department has been fined Rs 21,000. The amount will be deducted in three installments from their salaries.
The SIC has also sought a reply from Municipal Commissioner Achyut Hange for not initiating departmental inquiry into the non-compliance of the RTI Act by his officers.
