Times
of India: Bhopal: Saturday, 26 September 2015.
It would take
at least six more months before new director of All India Institute of Medical
Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal is finalised. The selection process has started with
scrutiny of applicants for the post which has been lying vacant after Dr
Sandeep Kumar's resignation was accepted in May.
AIIMS Raipur
director Dr Nitin M Nagarkar has been holding dual charge as acting director of
AIIMS Bhopal.
Pradhan
Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) joint secretary Sunil Sharma visited
AIIMS Bhopal on Thursday. He was informed about progress of hospital
construction and other routine office work. "Process of selecting a new
director is ongoing," said Sharma.
He did not
comment on status of AIIMS Bhopal administrative officer Sanjay Chauhan. An RTI
had revealed that Chauhan had overstayed his deputation from Union ministry of
urban development.
In the
absence of a full-fledged director, institute has been finding it tough to meet
minimum operation requirements. We have requested Union ministry of health and
family welfare (MoHFW) to take corrective action, said an official.
Last
November, after a complaint by BJP MP from Khandwa and state party president
Nand Kumar Singh Chouhan, Union ministry of health and family welfare (MoHFW)
began a preliminary probe into allegations and counter allegations of
misconduct and financial irregularities against top AIIMS officials.
Sources said
that Sharma was apprised about internal politicking that has allegedly marred
the institute's progress. Institute has been continuously marred with
construction delays and allegations of a recruitment scam.
