Claiming that
the education system in the capital is fraught with corrupt practices, the
Delhi government on Saturday released a list of education officials against
whom action has been ordered.
“I am shocked
to see lots of corrupt practices in our education system. No wonder there is so
much corruption in society,” stated Deputy Chief Minister and Education
Minister Manish Sisodia.
Sisodia said
that action has been ordered against the principal of Bindapur government
school, who allegedly took bribes from four sets of parents, in exchange for
securing admission for their children.
“The principal of Bindapur government school
has also installed a water cooler, bought for the students, in his office for
personal use,” tweeted the minister.
Earlier this
week, Sisodia had revealed that he has ordered action against some principals,
who allegedly helped students with fake certificates secure admission.
“The
principal of a government school in Tughlakabad area admitted a student in
class 11 on the basis of the fake marksheet. Even after it was revealed that
the student had produced a fake marksheet, the principal did not bother to
lodge an FIR. Action is being taken against the principal of another government
school, who issued a fake school leaving certificate to a student,” said the
minister.
The minister
also informed that a placement officer at GB Pant Polytechnic has been
suspended for allegedly taking bribes for making job recommendations on the
basis of fake certificates.
The Delhi
government, which is embroiled in a tussle with the Anti-Corruption Branch
(ACB) over pursuing cases of corruption, has been restricted to taking
departmental action against only a few officials who were allegedly found
indulging in corruption.
With the
government operating its own corruption helpline 1031, the ACB is working
independently on corruption cases. Information released in response to an RTI
query revealed that the ACB has arrested nearly a dozen officials since M K
Meena took over as its chief.
