Realising the
growing reach of social media, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday asked
Government officials to use the platform more actively to communicate messages.
In view of
rapid strides made in social media and technological innovations, the Chief
Minister said the Information and Public Relations Department should be
restructured suitably to meet the challenges before it.
The Chief
Minister, who reviewed the activities of the department during the last one
year, said because of the changing situation in the media, there is need for
technical and professional management in the communication network of the
department. He also asked the department to take advantage of the social media
in its communication network.
The Chief
Minister directed the department to formulate a new advertisement policy for
the electronic and print media. He said assistance for treatment should be
provided to more journalists from the Journalists’ Welfare Fund.
He directed
the inter-departmental committee headed by Development Commissioner UN Behera
to recommend the possible features of the proposed new advertisement policy and
asked the department to make provisions for receiving online applications from
journalists and providing financial assistance to them within two months.
The Chief
Minister said all processes of the Right to Information (RTI) Act should be
conducted online and applicants informed about the progress through messages in
mobile phones. Minister of State for Information and Public Relations Atanu
Sabyasachi Nayak, Chief Secretary GC Pati, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance)
R Balakrishnan and senior officials attended the meeting.
