The Joint Action Committee of Pondicherry
University comprising Pondicherry University Teachers' Association, Officers'
Association, Non-teaching Staff Welfare Association and Group C and D Employees
Welfare Association, observed one-day fast on Saturday near Lt governor's
Bungalow to protest against MHRD's inaction over several allegations of fraud,
plagiarism, corruption and maladministration against vice chancellor, Chandra
Krishnamurthy.
Over 100 employees and students sat for fasting,
more than 100 social activists and other employees participated in the protest.
It has been alleged that Krishnamurthy secured the top position of Pondicherry
University by submitting wrong information in his resume.
Teachers claim that the fraud committed by her has
been uncovered through a series of RTI queries. Several letters exposing the
fraud with solid evidences have been sent to the MHRD, PMO and the President of
India (visitor of the University) over past six months. However, so far there
has been no action taken against the VC.
Leaders belonging to several political parties,
faculty and other employees, who addressed the participants, emphasized the
urgent need for the removal of the VC. While appreciating the efforts of the
Joint Action Committee for the commitment, the leaders pledged their support to
the struggle. In the end the JAC resolved to take the struggle to Delhi if the
MHRD does not take action against the VC.
