DC vows to act on RTI violations

Times of India: Mangalore: Wednesday, 15 April 2015.
Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim will hold a meeting to discuss violations pertaining to admission process in schools.
He will meet deputy director of public instruction and deputy director of PU education to discuss the issue. Earlier, activists of Shikshana Rakshana Vedike - a forum that was constituted recently -briefed him on the violation of rules pertaining to the admission process in various schools in the city.
They pointed out that admissions in certain schools are in gross violation of the circular issued by the director of education. As a chairman of district education regulatory authority, Ibrahim should look into it, they said. The deputy commissioner assured them that he will offer his feedback in a week.
The delegation led by Lolaksha, convener, and Renni D'Souza, co-convener of Shikshana Rakshana Vedike, appealed to the deputy commissioner to offer his assurance that the provisions of law and regulations pertaining to the admission process in pre-schools, primary and high schools in the district will be implemented as per the official guidelines.
In a detailed memorandum that the delegation submitted, they sought for an institutional mechanism that will provide high level of transparency and accountability.
Referring to schools as 'teaching shops,' they said that sale of education should be stopped.
