Central
Information Commission has taken suo motu notice of information published in a
TOI report published on February 27, 2015 on drinking water facility in Delhi's
government schools. It directed DJB and Directorate of Education to "give
a report on drinking water facility in the schools...with challenges, proposals
and plans to provide the drinking water along with the time frame for the
same".
Delhi NGO
Pardarshita had sought information under the RTI Act on the number of
government schools with DJB connections in the city. Instead of furnishing
collated data for all schools, several of the 13 school districts had simply
transferred the application to the individual schools. Finally, information was
obtained for 798 of the 1,010 schools.
Over 40
schools in the southeast district hadn't replied to the RTI query. This failure
to furnish data seems to have irked the CIC even more.
It has told
the DoE "to collect information from those 40 schools as to drinking water
facility and furnish the same to Shreya Roy Chowdhary, the TOI correspondent
who reported the story and the NGO complainant, Paradarshita by March 20, 2015
and report the compliance of the orders by 2.30pm on that day."
