With the aim
of increasing awareness about the Right to Information Act in Goa, Goa RTI
forum has initiated a 15-day membership drive to take the organization across
to all corners of Goan society, secretary Ganpat Kurtiker said in a press
release.
"One of
the simplest things a person can do is ask the government why Section 4 of the
RTI Act hasn't been fully implemented," Kurtiker said. Section 4 of the
RTI Act deals with public disclosure by public authorities, whereby mandatory
details have to be furnished and uploaded online voluntarily.
The
organization which has been championing the cause of Right to Information in
Goa since 2012 claims that most people who file RTI applications do so for
personal reasons and not for social benefit.
"The
purpose of the drive is to help people from every nook and corner of Goa, more
specifically those at the grassroots level, to connect with the
organization and benefit from the expertise available with the forum,"
said Kurtiker.
In order to
do so, people interested in joining the organization have been asked to send in
their name and address to Goa RTI forum (9823628799).
Since its
inception in 2012, Goa RTI forum has been taking up several issues related to
RTI and its deployment for the advantage of the Goan masses. Several programs
related to RTI have been conducted across Goa by the forum, including annual
conventions at Siolim, Marcaim and RTI guidance and awareness programmes.
