State Chief
Information Commissioner A.K.M. Nayak has instructed the Hubballi-Dharwad
Municipal Corporation (HDMC) to allow an applicant to personally inspect
documents pertaining to the laying of OFC cables, as per the provisions of the
Right to Information Act.
Mr. Nayak,
who conducted a hearing of applications filed under RTI Act here on Thursday,
also fixed the date of the visit of applicant Prakash Mahale to eight HDMC
zonal offices and instructed the officials to be present on those days and
cooperate with him.
In his
application dated October 1, 2013, Mr. Mahale had sought to inspect the
documents in the zonal offices but the officials did not respond to it. Then,
he approached HDMC Joint Commissioner, who is the first appellate authority, on
November 27, 2013. He ordered on December 30 to allow Mr. Mahale to inspect the
records within 15 days. When the officials did not respond to this order, Mr.
Mahale filed a second appeal with the State Information Commission. Mr. Nayak
heard the appeal on Thursday. The HDMC officials have promised to cooperate.
