RTI Act is not for defaming one’s adversary: Mizoram Information Commissioner

The main objective of Right to Information Act is paving the way for the citizens of the country such that they may get their rights and dignities, Information Commissioner L. Hrangnawna said today while addressing the progarmme of Right to Information held at Sangau 3 Community Hall as Chief Guest.
For the successful implementation of it, the people themselves are necessary, he said. In the mean time, there is possibility of perverted thinking that RTI opens up the way to defame one’s adversary, which is but not the objective of RTI, Information Commissioner L. Hrangnawna said. It is necessary that RTI is used for its rightful purpose, he added. The RTI campaign was organised by State Information Commission, Mizoram.
Information Commissioner L. Hrangnawna instructed the people who gathered for the programme on different subjects related on RTI and answered the questions from the people.
He also asked the gathering which included students, NGO leaders, VC members, Govt officials and people from nearby villages, to be inquisitive and knowledgeable regarding their rights and dignities.
Sangau BDO Pu Vanlaltanpui presided over the campaign programme while Lawngtlai District Information Officer K. Saitluanga delivered vote of thanks to the participants.
