The Karnataka
Information Commission has issued a show-cause notice to Bengaluru South
Tahsildar Dr Dayanand for not providing information sought by an applicant
under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
Information
Commissioner T Rama Naik slapped the show-cause notice on the tahsildar, asking
him why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for denying
information to an RTI applicant, P Kalidas Reddy. The KIC also imposed a fine
of Rs 20,000 on the tahsildar for non-compliance with the rules under RTI Act.
The applicant
had lodged complaint with KIC after the official in question failed to provide
the information sought on the government land, lakes, stormwater drains and
kharab land in four villages - Gubbalala, Thurahalli, Vasanthapura and
Subramanyapura villages in Bengaluru South Taluk.
“I had sought
information on March 28, 2013 but till now I have not received any information
except for the letter which says that I am not entitled to seek information
about village Kallahalli. It is the village where I live, but I never sought
information about my village since I know that the village has disappeared in
the hustle and bustle of Bengaluru,” Reddy said.
