Times: Ludhiana: Saturday, 17 January 2015.
The Ludhiana
Improvement Trust (LIT) is waiting for the pending dues as the Canal Lining
Division, irrigation department, has failed to pay the rent of rooms and
charges for electricity, water supply and sewerage.
The Ludhiana
Improvement Trust had given rooms on rent around 30 years ago to the canal
lining division at its building in Feroze Gandhi Market, Ludhiana.
It was learnt
that the Ludhiana Improvement Trust has recently asked the department concerned
to pay the pending dues, but in vain.
After
obtaining information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, Arvind Sharma,
a city resident, has revealed that the canal lining division has not paid the
outstanding dues. It was learnt that the canal lining division has not paid
`36.38 lakh, which are pending against the electricity, water supply and
sewerage charges.
This
department has to pay this amount to the Ludhiana Improvement Trust, which is
yet to improve the condition of various colonies under it.
The Ludhiana
Improvement Trust through the RTI also informed that the Canal Lining Division
has also not paid pending rent of `77,000.
Sharma also
alleged that the canal lining wing was also using the generator facility due to
which the Ludhiana Improvement Trust is facing losses. Sharma claimed that the
LIT had informed that the Canal Lining Division has also not paid any property
tax.
Another
resident Sharanjeet Singh said, “The Ludhiana Improvement Trust authorities
should ensure that the other departments pay their pending dues in time. The
colonies under the Ludhiana Improvement Trust are already crying for attention
as many roads are broken and parks are in bad shape.”
Sharma said
an inquiry should be marked to know the reason behind non-payment of dues by
the Canal Lining Division.
