The Gujarat
Secondary and Higher Secondary Education board on an average distributes nearly
Rs one lakh per month as allowances. These allowances are given to the members
of the various committees. An RTI application filed by Kamlesh Raval, a
teacher, reveals that the GSHSEB has paid Rs 15 lakh to its members for
attending meeting of various committees including examination committee,
finance committee, executive committee and even the General board of the
GSHSEB.
Officials
said that a member for attending various committee is paid an allowance which
is over and above their salaries they get. The RTI reveals that except one
member, Naulesh Patel, all have claimed the amount. Patel despite being in the
committees has not claimed any amount.
Among the
members who have bagged the maximum allowance include Malhar Raval who has been
paid Rs 1.61 lakh by the board. Raval is member of the examination committee
and general board. Apart from Raval, Prabhatsinh Rana who is the executive
committee and general board and finance committee was paid Rs 1.37 lakh by the
Board.
Apart Rana,
Bharat Chaudhary who is the member of the examination and general board has got
1.17 lakh as allowance.
However, the
officials in the RTI made it clear that the allowances were paid to the members
15 months between July 2013 and September 2014.
A senior
official said that majority of the teachers and members have their own cars or
they come by carpooling. However, each one of them would put up a separate bill
of individual hired taxis. The officials said that the only income that the
board gets is from the examination fees paid by the students of class X, XI and
XII. The board feeling the heat had recently increased the examination fee
structure.
