State
Information Commissioner P. Vijaya Babu wanted the government to bring Public-Private-Partnership
(PPP), Build-Operate-Transfer and major corporate companies’ transactions with
government under the purview of Right to Information Act for ensuring safety of
public properties.
All these
transactions involved public properties and general public had every right to
learn about such dealings. Presently, there is no such provision, but there are
quite a few oral requisitions from different people about a few PPP and other
government-based tie up with corporate companies, he said.
Addressing a
press conference here on Monday, Mr. Babu said senior officials in different
departments were not adhering to the rules of RTI and their attitude towards
implementation of the act was very poor. Despite there being provision for
levying penalty on authorities, who fail to implement the act, majority of them
were not bothered, he informed.
