The Centre
has maintained that there is no in-house mechanism to deal with the complaints
filed against the Chief Justice of India (CJI) and Supreme Court judges.
The
submission by the department of justice was made before the Central Information
Commission (CIC) during hearing of an application filed under the Right to
Information Act.
The apex
panel under the transparency law, however, said that the Judicial
Accountability Bill could address complaints against the judges but it was for
Parliament to consider passing the law.
RTI activist
Subhash Chandra Agrawal made a number of queries, including the manner of
handling complaints filed against the CJI and other judges of the apex court
and the high courts.
As the matter
was taken to the Central Information Commission, the justice department stated
there was no in-house mechanism in their office to address complaints against
the CJI and other judges.
The issue has
to be independently handled by the Supreme Court itself, it said.
