Close on the
heels of the multi-crore rupee scam at Bishalgarh Rural Development Block, one
more multi crore rupee scam has come to light in the office of Chief Medical
Officer (CMO), Unakoti district, triggering a tremor in the administration.
Sensing the
impending trouble, one staff of CMO Office Nirmal Chandra Das has already
been axed while four others were served show cause notice by the CMO himself.
Congress MLA
Birajit Sinha, who brought the scam to light, has filed an FIR against four
persons including Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Alok Diwan for their alleged
involvement in misappropriation of NRHM fund amounting to Rs 30 crore, which is
bigger than the Bishalgarh scam.
According to
RTI inputs, the CMO, Unakoti district has spent Rs 32.34 crore from 2006 -07 FY
to 2013-14 FY. Of this amount no adjustment was given to the authority against
Rs 26 crore. Interestingly, the CMO office has spent Rs 6 crore without any
sanction memo.
Congress
leaders and workers led by MLA Birjit Sinha met CMO Dr Alok Diwan on Friday and
sought reply on the alleged misappropriation of NRHM fund as indicated by audit
report. According to the audit report around Rs 30 crore has been embezzled in
the past eight years.
As the CMO
admitted that no adjustment of Rs 24 crore was mentioned in the report due to
unspecific reasons, the delegation of District Congress launched an agitation
inside the CMO office demanding CBI probe into the scam. As tension ran high,
police arrived and brought the situation under control.
Later, Sinha
lodged an FIR against four persons including Dr Diwan with Kailasahar Police
Station and demanded arrest of all accused persons within 24 hours. But, Senior
Deputy Magistrate JV Doati gave assurance to take action against the four
accused persons within next seven days.
