Says Adbul
Salam misrepresented facts, seeks his expulsion. Members of the Calicut
University Samyukta Samara Samithi, a forum of non-teaching staff of the
university, has asked the government to expel Vice Chancellor M. Abdul Salam in
the wake of the “new documents” received under Right to Information Act, which,
they say, have brought to light serious misrepresentation in the biodata Dr.
Salam submitted to the authorities for the post.
Addressing a
press conference here on Thursday, the members of the Samithi, which is on
strike demanding the resignation of Dr. Salam, said that the document brought
out by them under the RTI Act had “clear evidence” against Dr. Salam. “A
criminal case should be registered against him immediately after expelling him
from the post,” said P. Premarajan, chairman of the Samithi.
Stating that
Dr. Salam’s ‘misdeed’ was more serious than the one committed by A.V. George,
the Vice Chancellor of the Mahatma Gandhi University who was expelled, the
Samithi members said Dr. Salam was misleading the government, the Governor, and
the University Grants Commission by submitting false credentials.
Though Dr.
Salam claimed to have 14 years’ service as full-time Professor, the document
under the RTI Act revealed that he was on leave (Leave without Allowance) for
over six years during this period, Samithi convener P. Omer said.
“Minus the
LWA he was a full-time Professor only for nine years, one month and nine days,
which is not enough for the post,” said Mr. Omer.
Maintaining
that Dr. Salam had made similar misrepresentation in the case of his total
years of service in the CV, the Samithi members said that there were clear
‘discrepancies’ in the biodata where he put his years of total experience as
well. The Samithi members said that they would meet the new Governor next week
to bring the matter to his notice.
