Times
of India: Goa: Friday, 08 August 2014.
The minister
for information and publicity, Milind Naik, told the Goa legislative assembly
on Thursday that the two posts of state information commissioner (SIC) will be
re-advertised and will be filled "as early as possible". Naik was
criticized for delaying the process of filling the posts which are lying vacant
since August 2012.
Curtorim MLA,
Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, and Porvorim MLA, Rohan Khaunte, urged the minister
to fill the posts without any further delay as the backlog of cases pending
before the commission has increased.
Naik said the
government cancelled the selection process as it was not in keeping with the
directions of the Supreme Court-that at least one of the information
commissioners should have experience in the field of law.
Lourenco was
also critical of the government over the advertisement expense of 22lakh
incurred by the department of information and publicity for BJP's national
executive meet held in Goa, last year.
"Government
money should not be spent on celebrating feasts or some party activities,"
he said. He added that he had obtained the information under the right to
information (RTI) act.
