The Nagaland
Foothill Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) stated on Friday that it has
received positive feedback from Nagaland state Chief Minister, TR Zeliang to
settle disagreement between the NFHRCC and the PWD (Road & Bridges). The
row between the NFHRCC and the PWD (R &B) erupted over choice of
contractors for the first phase of the Foothill Road construction.
The NFHRCC,
after a meeting in Dimapur on Friday, disclosed that it had met the CM on July
28 and submitted a memorandum. “The CM assured the committee that he will
direct the Cabinet Sub Committee headed by the Home Minister, Y. Patton;
Agriculture Minister, Dr. Benjongliba; Power Minister, Kilpili Sangtam;
Parliamentary Secretary, CL John and Health Minister P. Longon to have a second
sitting with the committee at the earliest with a view to amicably settle the
imbroglio between the NFHRCC and the department in concern.”
Agriculture
Minister Dr. Benjongliba and the Commissioner & Secretary, Roads &
Bridges, CT Sangtam further “assured to cooperate with the committee’s
position” in a separate meeting, the NFHRCC informed. Meanwhile, it urged the
PWD (R&B) not to divert the fund meant for the Foothill Road.
The NFHRCC
reaffirmed to stand by the “committee recommended contractors” and urged “the
contractors not to feel isolated.” The
committee further informed that Dimapur police have revealed the identity of
the person, who was arrested with firearms during the bandh on June 30 in
Dimapur. It was revealed only after filing an application through RTI.
According to the RTI documents, the person identified as Khotso Yalie (40), was
found possessing an unregistered .22 calibre pistol with four rounds, one wooden
club and liquor. The NFHRCC maintained that the arrested individual was not
their volunteer during the day of the bandh.
