Goa peoples'
forum (GPF) has appealed to Goa University to revert the decision of scraping
the subject on Right to Information from the fourth semester syllabus for
students pursuing a graduation degree in commerce. The subject, that was part
of the business and public communication paper, carried 45 marks in total and
provided practical training to students regarding filing RTI applications and
appeals.
After
learning that the board of studies for commerce undergraduate had objections to
RTI as a subject in the syllabus, GPF appealed to the concerned authorities to
not exclude the subject from the syllabus. Expressing apprehensions that the
practical training given to students will be scraped in the process of revising
the syllabus, GPF stated that this change would harm the RTI movement in Goa.
"University
should take into consideration the views of RTI activists, educationists,
citizens and students before finalizing its decision of deleting practical
training about RTI from the syllabus," said Satish Sonak, convener of GPF.
