New Delhi: Thursday, 07 August 2014.
The CBI has
been kept out of the purview of the Right to Information Act "in the
interest of the security of the state", the government said Wednesday.
Minister of
State in the Prime Minister's Office Jitendra Singh told the Lok Sabha that the
Central Bureau of Investigation had been included in the Second Schedule of the
RTI Act.
But this
exemption would not be applicable in respect of information pertaining to
allegations of corruption and human rights violations, the minister said.
Jitendra
Singh admitted that representations had been received objecting to the CBI's inclusion
in the second schedule of the RTI Act.
The
government took the decision as the CBI was "a security and intelligence
organization" and it would not be in the interest of the state to keep it
within the ambit of the RTI Act.
