Times of India: Ahmedabad: Thursday, 10 July 2014.
Despite
submission of an investigation report by the designated authority on May 1,
2013, the Gujarat government is yet to take action in the case related to the
killing of three Dalit youths in police firing in Thangadh.
The
government, in a written reply to a starred question by a Congress MLA, said
that the report is under consideration. The government said that a special
investigation officer had been appointed on September 26, 2012, to probe the
case.
Despite
directions from the Gujarat Information Commission (GIC), the government had
refused to share details of its findings that were sought under Right to
Information (RTI) Act.
The killings
had sparked off statewide protests and had forced the home department to set up
a probe committee under the chairmanship of then principal secretary of social
justice and empowerment department, Sanjay Prasad. The panel had been asked to
submit its report within 30 days.
