The Asian Age: Mumbai: Thursday, 01 May 2014.
The future of
over 1,200 students studying at Leelavati Awhad College of Engineering has been
put in jeopardy as the college has failed to provide information of merit
listers and enrolment since its inception in 2010 as a result of which both the
University of Mumbai and the Directorate of Technical Education have held back
the exam results, as well as put its affiliation on hold.
The issue has
been taken up by Prahar Vidyarthi Sanghatana members who met the secretary of
higher and technical education and demanded action against the MU and DTE
authorities for allowing the college to operate in such an unprofessional
manner.
According to
advocate Manoj Tekade of Prahar, information received under RTI shows that the
college has functioned as per its whims, thus putting the careers of the
enrolled students in jeopardy. “Mr Kumar has asked DTE and MU authorities to
respond for the dereliction of duty,” said Mr Tekade.
On its part,
DTE responded saying that it had been asking the college to submit the list of
merit holders enrolled since the past four years, but the college failed to
respond. “As the college refused to respond to the letters, DTE asked the MU to
withhold the results of the students,” said a DTE official.
“The
University has only tried to ensure that the future of the students is not
jeopardised,” said a senior official.
“The college
management has been asked to comply with the requirements of DTE and MU after
which the results will be announced,” said the official. The administrator of
the college, who was in the University on Wednesday said, “The college will
comply with all the requirements at the earliest.”
