Hindustan Times: Rupnagar: Monday, April 07, 2014.
The district
police have given a clean chit reportedly to Right to Information (RTI)
activist lawyer Dinesh Chadha in an attempt-to-murder case lodged at Nangal.
A
three-member special investigating team (SIT) led by superintendent of police
(detective) DS Mann is reported to have found no evidence to link Chadha to the
crime. The Anandpur Sahib deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and the Nangal
station house of ficer (SHO) are also on this squad.
Police
sources have confirmed that Chadha’s name is dropped from the case that was
registered last month after his raising voice against the collection of “gooda
tax” (extortion money) on the transport of sand and gravel in Rupnagar
district.
Complainant
Amarjit Singh, employee of mining royalty contractor Varinder Singh, had stated
that some people had tried to kill him at the behest of Chadha near Nangran
village in the Nangal area when he had flagged down two sand trucks to check
royalty slip.
The lawyers
of Rupnagar and Anandpur Sahib had demanded that the case be cancelled.
