Even as
Class-9 students face the risk of failing, hundreds of Class-10 students in
government schools also performed poorly in their mid-term tests held in
September last year, raising questions about the standard of education in such
schools.
An enquiry
under the Right to Information Act revealed that, of the 139 Class-10 students
at Government High School, Hallomajra, 105 scored less than 25% in the
Summative Assessment (SA) 1. Likewise, 182 out of 350 Class-10 students in
Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 45, had less than 25% marks in the
September examination. Government High School-Mauli Colony had 125 out of 234
Class 10 students with less than 25% marks in the test. The situation is no
better in other schools .
Further,
there were very few students in the 60-80% bracket in most government schools.
A school principal, seeking anonymity, said that with such poor results in
mid-term examination, there seems no major hope for UT education department to
improve its Class 10 performances from the 2012-13 Sessions. "Only 30 of
the total 10,553 students scored a perfect 10 CGPA in the (2012-13) session.
Most government schools had their students between 4 CGPA to 7 CGPA," he
said.
CBSE
counselor Rakesh Sachdeva said that while each Summative Assessment carry 30%
marks in the total assessment, such a dismal performance in SA-1 will make it
difficult to get an overall perfect assessment.
