Poshini B T
takes pride in conducting training programmes on Right to Information Act (RTI)
for women, especially tribals from rural areas of the region.
Speaking
about her activities, Poshini said: "Right from my childhood, I wanted to
do social work. After my graduation, I worked on projects of Swami Vivekananda
Youth Movement for two years. Inspired by their training programmes, rallies
and awareness programmes, especially those relating to women, I started out on
my own so that large number of women are benefitted."
The
43-year-old trainer said: "I have been conducting training programmes on
RTI for rural women in Mysore since 2008. Often, aggrieved women don't come
forward to file RTI applications. But there has been a change in their mindset
ever since I started training them on RTI and its procedures."
In the
beginning, she trained women at fairs and shandies to reach out to as many as
possible. "In future, I want to reach out to all tribal women spread
across Karnataka," she said.
Geetha, a
tribal living in Dasanapura of Mysore district, said: "I lost my husband
in 2008. I didn't know much about our property. My two daughters also had no
idea. Then one of my relatives asked me to seek property-related info under
RTI. Poshini's programme has me aware of getting information under RTI. Now, I
have got information about my property."
Another
beneficiary Manjula Rani, who lives in Naganahalli of Mysore district, endorsed
Geetha's view.
"The
programme has helped me too. A person had claimed that the khata of my site was
in his name, and that he would start construction of a building. But after
attending this programme at a jathra, I sought details under RTI. The khata is
in my name now. We are thankful to Poshini," she added.
