The Tirumala
Tirupati Devatsnams (TTD) will henceforth have to answer queries posted to it
under the Right to Information act. The TTD management said on Thursday that if
the questions are in an 'appropriate' form, they will be answered. The TTD
falls under the purview of the RTI Act, its EO MG Gopal told the media on
Thursday.
Earlier this
year, TTD had asserted that it would not come under the purview of the RTI as
it is not a 'Public Authority' prescribed under Section 2 (h) of the RTI Act,
2005. Accordingly, it had refused to entertain a request from state BJP
spokesperson G Bhanuprakash Reddy who had sought information on the number of
the 'VIP passes' issued during Vaikuntha Ekadasi Day and New Year's Day.
