Tarikere: Citizens active Role in Governance essential for Sustaining Democracy – Sayyed Ansar Kalim

‘We dream about India a stronger nation in the world.  One has to understand the difference between Independence and Republic.  Our nation is governed as per written constitution, wherein all the administrative aspects abide by the constitution.  The citizens are kingmakers.  When the citizens actively partake in the affairs of nation, the democracy works better,’ said Bangalore district Consumers Forum president Sayyed Ansar Kalim.
Sayyed Ansar was the resource person speaking during the information workshop on Right to Information (RTI) – compulsory voting and enrolment, besides service programmes in partnership with district administration, at Rotary Club auditorium, here on Sunday September 22.  The programme was organized jointly by Rotary Club International district 3180, Chikmagalur district administration and Rotary Club, here.
Sayyed Ansar further said that its due to Anna Hazare’s struggle in Pune during 1985, the citizens is benefited out of RTI.  Today, the citizens are like lions administered by sheep.  Every citizen has to be alerted on using RTI, compulsorily vote and choose the able leaders for the democracy to sustain, said Sayyed Ansar.
Sayyed Ansar also offered information on alleged corruption in government sponsored programmes which are democratic method, to seek information from concerned officers, penalizing the officer for the lapses etc.  He also lauded Rotary Club for organizing general awareness in this regard.
Rotary district RTI Committee president B Pundalika Marate said that everyone who are over 18 years of age has to compulsorily enroll their names in the voters’ list, compulsorily vote, shun the corrupt, choose the able leaders in order to strengthen democracy.  The stronger nation will emerge in the nearest future, if everyone is aware of RTI and aggressively pursues for transparency in governance, said Pundalika Marate.
